RW-2-REG: Training on water accounting

WES will provide technical assistance and strengthen the capacities of the non-EU Mediterranean countries to implement effective measures to phase out Single Use Plastics (SUP). In this framework it will support WES Partner Countries in the formulation of the most appropriate and regionally harmonized measures/policy instruments to phase out Single Use Plastics and promote a circular economy. The activity will also contribute to the co-development of a set of guidelines to address Single Use Plastics in the Mediterranean.

First WES Steering Committee Meeting

A new four-year EU funded regional support project has just been launched. The Water and Environment Support project in the ENI Southern Neighbourhood region aims at protecting the environment and improving the management of scarce water resources in the Mediterranean. It will tackle problems related to pollution prevention and water use efficiency. This new project capitalizes on previous successful EU funded programmes like SWIM-Horizon 2020. The WES Partner Countries, where most activities will be implemented, are Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Libya, Palestine and Tunisia. Regional activities of the project are also open for Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mauritania, Montenegro and Turkey.

N-E-PS-2: Development of a draft strategy for plastic waste management with focus on single-use plastics (SUPs) in Palestine

WES is to provide technical assistance to the Environmental Quality Authority in Palestine to address plastic waste with focus on Single-Use Plastic Items. The core of this activity is to enhance the country’s awareness and capacity to respond to the challenges posed by plastic pollution/waste, with emphasis on SUPs.

N-E-DZ-2: Support for university training on green entrepreneurship and circular economy in Algeria

N-W-TN-1: Improving Water Use Efficiency in Agriculture

Scarcity of water in Tunisia makes efficient management and optimal allocation of this resource imperative. At the moment, agriculture in Tunisia is accountable for more than 80% of total withdrawals. Improving the efficiency of water use in agriculture is therefore at the heart of this activity.
