This activity will provide assistance to the Ministry of Environment in Lebanon for the prevention/abatement of industrial pollution through and the revision and the improvement of guidelines in the food, construction sector and also in commenting on the draft industrial wastewater standards that are being developed by the MoE.
WES will focus on the the analysis of single-use plastics activity (data analysis, sector assessment, technical measures accompanying the conversion of plastic bag manufacturers, the proposal of a policy) leading to a legal text for the progressive phasing out of plastic bags; This activity will be implemented in line with the respective guidelines, developed by United Nations Environment -Mediterranan Action Plan on phasing out single use plastic bags.
This activity is to develop a compendium detailing successful approaches in the wider Mediterranean and beyond with all generic recommendations for the needed steps to be communicated to Lebanon and Palestine with a view to encouraging more ambitious EPR schemes to bring about a more sustainable use of plastics.
This activity is to identify small scale “model” approaches for sorting and recycling plastics including actions to reduce the use of plastics in Lebanon and Palestine, to examine and “perfect” them and then “demonstrate” them as “champions” for others to replicate, follow or get inspired.
