More sustainable production and consumption patterns will support Tunisia in its strive towards the reduction and prevention of environmental pollution. This activity is aiming to assist Tunisia in the transition to sustainable modes of production.
Scarcity of water in Tunisia makes efficient management and optimal allocation of this resource imperative. At the moment, agriculture in Tunisia is accountable for more than 80% of total withdrawals. Improving the efficiency of water use in agriculture is therefore at the heart of this activity.
The increase of sedimentation is a serious problem for water reservoirs. Well designed water dams offer a good tool for proper water management. WES will support Tunisia in finding mitigation measures for sedimentation of the Lebna and Siliana dams.
The Korba is rich in biodiversity and highly under environmental threats. This activity will reduce environmental impacts linked to the important agro-food processing industry of tomatoes.
WES will identify the bottlenecks (technical, legislative, financial) in the application of the plastic bag banregulations and will propose actions to remove and overcome these constraints and a roadmap for an extension of the measures aimed at reducing and banning certain single-use plastic packaging in Tunisia.
The national meeting of the WES project in Tunisia will be focused to the actions carried out to date in Tunisia thanks to the activities of the WES project in the water and environment sectors (at the national level but also at the regional level) and to exchange on these activities but also on possible future actions with all beneficiaries, stakeholders and key actors (national authorities, EU delegation, donors).
