An increased water demand, combined with an expected decline in water supplies due to climate change, is leading to serious water scarcity in Morocco. This also entails in a significant increase in water-related costs. This activity will therefore support Morocco to elaborate strategies for cost recovery and tools in relation to water production.

RE-1-P2P: Phasing out single-use plastics in the Mediterranean

WES will provide technical assistance and strengthen the capacities of the non-EU Mediterranean countries to implement effective measures to phase out Single Use Plastics. In this framework it will support WES Partner Countries in the formulation of the most appropriate and regionally harmonized measures/policy instruments to phase out Single Use Plastics and promote a circular economy.

N-E-MO-1: Joint initiative for the establishment of the management chain for PET bottle packaging within the framework of EPR in Morocco

This activity aims to improve the sorting, collection and recovery system for PET beverage packaging waste in Morocco through the establishment of Extended Producers Responsibility (EPR) in the PET sector. Through this joint initiative, supported and led by all stakeholders involved in the management and recovery of PET bottle packaging as part of a sustainable EPR model, stock will be taken of relevant already existing initiatives, effective dialogue among all stakeholders involved in the sector will be facilitated, a monitoring group for the implementation of EPR in the PET bottles sector (COPIL) will be set up and a roadmap and a work plan, for the establishment of an operational model for the management of PET beverage packaging based on the principle of EPR will be prepared.

N-E-MO-2: Consolidation actions for the ongoing marine litter activities in Morocco ‘Assistance on marine litter monitoring and management in Morocco’

N-E-DZ-1: Support for the monitoring and management of marine litter in Algeria

WES will support the implementation of the Regional Plan for the Management of Marine Litter in the Mediterranean and the Integrated Monitoring and Assessment Program of the Barcelona Convention for Algeria. This will be done by generating data adapted to needs on the quantities, types, composition and sources of marine litter on the sea surface and on the seabed and by identifying management measures to combat tf marine litter.
